地域で長年育まれた農林水産物や食品をブランドとして守る「地理的表示（ＧＩ）保護制度」について、県関係の「谷田部（やたべ）ねぎ」の登録が取り下げられたことが分かった。谷田部ねぎ生産組合（小浜市）の高齢化が進み、国に登録した工程管理の維持が困難になった。北陸農政局によると、取り下げは過去に一件あったが、形を変えて申請中で、取り下げたままになるのは全国で初めて。

ねぎ生産農家の発掘を目的に「谷田部ねぎ生産組合（以下「組合」という）が結成された。当時、谷田部集落100軒のうち、谷田部ねぎを出荷していた農家が30名いたが、そのうち27名が組合に加入したという。現在（2018.12）の組合員は、60～80代の計14名で、半数以上が80代となっている。ＧＩ取得後、60代の新規生産者が２名加入したが、全体としては設立当時より組合員が減っている。 組合長によれば、「ＧＩ取得後、取材に伴う少量単発的な注文は増えたが、継続的かつ大口の販売先の確保までには至っていない。販売状況はＧＩ取得前とあまり変わっていない」というのが現状のようである。
