農林水産省は7日、農林水産物や食品を地域ブランドとして保護する「地理的表示保護制度(GI)」に、JA水戸の「水戸の柔甘(やわらか)ねぎ」を新たに登録した。茨城県内産品の登録は江戸崎かぼちゃ(稲敷市など)と飯沼栗(茨城町)に続き3例目。産地は「自信と誇りになる」とブランド力向上や生産者の増加に期待した。
