Digital piracy increases in 2022
The downward trend in levels of digital piracy was reversed in 2022, according to a new report from the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).The report ‘Online Copyright Infringement in the European Union, Films, Music, Publications, Software and TV, 2017-2022’ notes that piracy had slowly declined over the years until 2021 when the trend was reversed, increasing by 3.3% in 2022.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has denied Porsche’s application to trademark the unique synthetic engine sound produced by its electric vehicles, including the Taycan, citing its lack of distinctive qualities. Contrary to the examiner’s findings, the Board of Appeal (BoA) finds that the multimedia mark applied for in relation to books (Class 16), wine (Class 33) and relaxation; cultural activities; performances of classical music (Class 41) is distinctive.
