The CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation project (CarIPI), has just published a manual on regional geographical indications (GI), intended as a comprehensive guide for producers or producer groups, control bodies and IP offices. The manual outlines the necessary steps, requirements and outcomes associated with GI protection.
CarIPI is an international cooperation project funded by the European Union, co-funded and implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). It has an initial duration of 4 years and a half starting from the 1 November 2019.

The puspose of CarIPI’s webinar on ‘GI as ingredient’ is to explain how a GI-protected product can be used as an ingredient under certain conditions, and how those conditions might be created and sustained.
An origin-linked product can be defined as a local product which has a unique territorial identity, quality, specific modes of production and reputation linked to a geographical origin.
The overall objective of CarIPI is to contribute to the integration of the Caribbean Forum of ACP Group of States into the World Economy, through strengthening the enabling framework that stimulates innovation and competitiveness of the private sector
