The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of Lao People’s Democratic Republic has made its trade mark and design data available to the TMview and DesignView search tools.With Lao on board of TMview and DesignView, both tools now contain data from 69 participating offices.With the addition of more than 46,000 trade marks from Lao DIP, TMview provides information and access to more than 53.3 million trade marks in total. DesignView contains more than 14.5 million designs, including 491 designs from Lao DIP.

TMview’s visual search facility, which allows users to search for trade marks in the world’s largest free, online trade mark database, has been extended to three more national intellectual property offices.The intellectual property offices of Ireland (IEIPO), Slovakia (SKIPO) and Czech Republic (UPV) have enabled the functionality of TMview’s visual search facility with their trade mark databases. This allows for the image search function to be used on trade marks from these countries that have an image, further enriching TMview as a whole.

U.K. supermarket no longer legally trumps a literal country Iceland Foods, which operates Iceland supermarkets in the U.K., no longer holds the EU trademark on the word “Iceland,” which is, of course, a sovereign country. The EU Intellectual Property Organisation granted the food company said trademark back in 2014, but that trademark is now invalidated after the supermarket tried to stop the country from mentioning itself in a slogan, prompting the country to sue.
