Sake produced in Iwate Prefecture has been designated as part of the country’s Geographical Indication System (GI), which protects regional food brands, and its logo was announced on October 10th.
Recreations, which runs restaurants and other businesses, filed a trademark registration application with the Japan Patent Office for iso ramen, which is sold in coastal areas of Iwate Prefecture, but now they have withdrawn the trademark application.

Ohtuchi Machi Officials are worried about the trademark filing by a third party of “Iso Ramen”, which is widely served at restaurants along the Pacific coast of the Iwate Prefecture.
Today, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, based on the Act on the Protection of Names of Specified Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Products (Geographical Indication Act). has registered (registration numbers 63 to 66) Nango tomatoes, Yamadai kansho, Iwadeyama frozen tofu, and Iwate charcoal as geographical indications (GI).
