Today sees the launch of GIview, a new search database for all geographical indications (GIs) protected at European Union level.GIview provides a single entry point for data on GIs registered in the EU, and is a useful asset for consumers, producers and intellectual property professionals. It also contains detailed information on non-EU GIs protected at EU level through bilateral and multilateral agreements, and on EU GIs protected in non-EU countries.

Users are warned to be especially alert due to a new misleading invoice in circulation, which takes the form of a fake EUTM renewal invoice.(欧州連合商標の更新の請求書の形をとった新しい偽の請求書が出回っています。利用者は特に注意する必要があります。) The misleading invoice, which can be viewed here, has very recently been reported to the Office by users.This latest misleading invoice uses the EUIPO’s logo, name, acronym and address, and purports to be an EUTM renewal invoice issued by the Office. It is mailed to users from Geneva, Switzerland, and includes a demand for a “registration and entry fee” to be transferred to a Polish bank account with a PL IBAN prefix.

As of 14 September 2020, the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI) has enhanced its participation in TMclass and joined DesignClass.OAPI will now use and accept the list of terms from the harmonised database of goods and services (HDB) in TMclass as well as the list of terms from the harmonised database of product indications (HDBPI) in DesignClass. Following OAPI’s decision to use HDB and HDBPI there are now twelve (12) non-EU IP offices in TMclass and eleven (11) in DesignClass.
