Notably, Chinese filings overtook Japanese applications for the first time in 2015, with Japanese rights holders seemingly shifting their focus away from Korea.

中国企業は、商標出願数でも世界的に顕著な伸びを示す、世界でのブランド企業のリストにもその数が増加している。中国経済の急速な成長と中国ブランドの国際化は、WIPOの商標登録国際機関であるマドリッド制度を中国が利用することを促進している。 WIPOによれば、2016年にマドリッド制度を使用する国として、中国がトップ5にランクされ、その年、中国の出願人は、マドリッド制度の下で3,200の国際商標出願を出願している（前年度比68.6％増）。また、2016年には、外国人申請者がマドリッド制度を通じて中国の22,314件の商標を保護を求めており、 12年連続で中国はマドリッド制度の下で外国商標出願人によって最も指定された国となっている。（記事の部分訳、一部修正済み）
日本とＥＵのＥＰＡで、ＥＵの地理的表示（ＧＩ）を保護する方針の日本政府に対し、米国の酪農・乳製品団体が「パルメザンチーズ」などは一般化した名称だとして対象外にするよう求める書簡を送った。ＧＩ保護でＥＵがチーズの名称使用を独占すれば、「健全な貿易を制限しかねない」と懸念を示している。 全米生乳生産者連盟（ＮＭＰＦ）など三つの酪農・乳製品団体が９月２８日、連名で斎藤健農相宛てに書簡を送った。

Wrigley has recently sued Dreamcore Enterprise, a company selling liquids for electronic cigarettes, over the use of the ‘Juicy Fruit’ trademark on its e-liquid for e-cigarettes. The complaint was filed at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois last week after the defendants failed to reply to two cease-and-desist letters from Wrigley.
