WIPOの発表によれば、新gTLDに関する係争数が増大しており、特にファッション、銀行、IT（Information Technology）が最も重要な分野ということになっています。WIPOのプレス発表では、2015年に2,754件が UDRP(Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy:統一ドメイン名紛争処理方針)にかかり、それは4.6％の前年増でした。WIPOの資料からは、最も多いのは.com関連で 2,732件(71.71％)、続いて 262件が.net関連、200件が.org、81件が.infoについてでした。1400のうちの938前後の新gTLDが今日までに供用されており、新gTLDで商標権者は全てのセカンドレベルの不正使用等を黙認せずに対処するのかどうか、或いは例えば.bankなる新gTLDがリリースされるが、それを商標権者以外のサイバースクワッターなどの第3者に取られてしまう場合には、オンラインの直接の問題ともなり得るとされています。
